Activity Information

Obtain Project Commitments

Description

Project commitments are agreements or promises from team members and stakeholders to do their best to provide the level of commitment needed to realize the product vision. Each project core team member and stakeholder as team peers should be required to sign off against the project commitment as an indivisible whole. It is not good enough for an individual to meet their commitments when the team fails to deliver on the project promise.

Steps

  1. Solicit Commitment:

Ask each team member to commit to the project plan and the promise of the whole team to deliver the agreed upon product vision. They are making an individual commitment as part of a team of peers. Each team member is jointly responsible for the success of the project and delivering on the product vision.

It is not always possible to get commitments in a group setting. It may be necessary to schedule time with individuals or to solicit their commitment by e-mail.

To expedite agreements on a commitment, make an appointment to go and visit the stakeholder and, across their desk, ask them sincerely for their signature.
  2. Publish Commitment:

Publish the team commitments on the project portal.

Place the names of all the committed team members against the approved project plan.
