Activity Information

Form Project Team

Description

A project team should be assembled based on the knowledge and skills required. The team may consist of a core of dedicated members associated with the flow of the project and its vision and scope along with a set of commitments from functional organizations to provide personnel with the appropriate skills for dedicated periods during the life of the project. Alternatively, a project may be big enough and is anticipated to last long enough to justify fully dedicated resources and its own organizational structure.

Steps

  1. Form Core Team:

Identify a core team who will lead the project from start to finish. The core team is responsible for the flow of the project; delivering a product that meets the product vision.
  2. Decide Whether the Project has its Own Organization:

Will the project leverage functional teams or will it build its own organization?

If it will have its own organization, then create an organization chart with a set of open positions for the required skills and knowledge.
  3. Solicit Resource Commitments (Optional):

If utilizing functional groups, solicit commitments for dedicated staffing to meet the needs of the project knowledge and skills.
  4. Publish Open Positions (Optional):

Advertise open positions on the project in a manner appropriate to the organization. Are you hiring internally or externally?
  5. Fill Open Positions (Optional):

As called for in the project plan, recruit staff for open positions.

Continually assess ability to recruit people into open positions for potential risk.
