Create Rollout and Deployment Plan

Description

Rollout and deployment of products needs to be planned. In order to fully realize the value captured in a new product release, there are many related activities that must be coordinated and implemented. Training must be provided for sales staff, help desk associates, end-user trainers, field service and maintenance engineers, and operations engineers. Marketing plans, collateral, product launch, and press releases must be prepared.

Steps

  1. Gather Release and Deployment Requirements:

    Gather the requirements for release, rollout, and deployment.

    Include all training needs such as sales training, help desk or support training, field service and maintenance training, operations training, and end-user trainer training.

    Include marketing requirements for collateral, product launch, marketing communications and press releases, as well as any trade shows, exhibitions, road shows, and product demos planned post launch.
  2. Analyze Requirements:

    Analyze the launch, rollout, and deployment requirements into a backlog of tasks.

    Enter the tasks into Visual Studio Team System for tracking and assignment.
  3. Determine the Resources Required:

    Identify the personnel, facilities, equipment, and budget required to execute the plan.
  4. Gain Commitments on Resources:

    Negotiate with the integrated program management office for resource allocation and obtain commitments against the plan.
  5. Identify Risks:

    Update the risk log with new risks identified against the release, rollout, and deployment plan.

    Manage risks through the day-to-day risk management activities.
  6. Monitor and Manage Issues:

    Monitor and manage release, rollout, and deployment issues through the day-to-day issue management activities.
