Description

The first step to resolving a bug is to attempt to reproduce it. When a bug is reproduced, it might become clear that the description does not include sufficient or correct information, or the bug is intermittent. It is necessary to establish a dependable means of triggering the bug to help locate it and eventually implement a fix.

Steps

  1. Follow the Bug Description:
    If the bug report includes steps for reproducing the bug, execute them.

    If the bug report results from the execution of a test, follow the test procedure.

  2. Obtain More Information:
    If the bug cannot be reproduced, gather more information. Use test configurations and previous bug reports for the problem area. Also consult previous bug reports from other developers or testers.

    Experiment with likely variations of the bug description for more insight.

    Record observations of improvements or failures of the bug to the instructions on the bug tracking form.

  3. Abandon the Bug:
    If still unable to reproduce the bug, the decision can be made to set the bug to Fixed with a reason of Unable to reproduce.
