Welcome to IRIS Process Central Sandbox

IRIS Process Central Sandbox is an online process community to promote discussions on process improvements through collaborative input.  Its goal is to bring together process modelers, process consumers, and other stakeholders to freely share information on existing processes and create new process mash-ups.

To facilitate these discussions, we have included several processes in the sandbox including MSF for CMMI, OpenUP, and Agile.  Where possible, we have provided a variety of formats for each process as well as enactment templates.

You can participate by providing your feedback through blogs, discussions boards or modifying the content of the processes.  We are eager to get your feedback and will make every effort to ensure that IRIS Process Central Sandbox becomes a valuable asset to you and your organization.

IRIS Process Central is designed to be simple to use.  However we are including some commonly asked questions to help you get started.

1. What is the best way to start using the sandbox?

You may want to use the keyword search to narrow down the list of processes.  A good starting point is reading the blogs which are available for each process.   We have included an overview of the process as the first blog.

2. Do I need a user ID to use the sandbox?

You do not need a user ID to view content of the sandbox.  However, in order to modify content or participate in blogs and discussions, you need to have a user ID.  To request a user ID, send an email to info@osellus.com.

3. What are the different formats available for each process?

MS Project - Contains a XML file in zip format.  In MS Project open the file by setting the type to XML.  All process work breakdown elements are displayed as tasks in the project plan.  Process element description and related information are included in the Notes section of each task.

Published - Opens an online published site for the process.  You may use the left menu to navigate through the process or click any work flow elements to drill down.

Wiki - Opens a Wiki site for the process.  You can use the left menu to navigate through the process or view the most recent changes.  If you have a sandbox user ID, you can use the Edit button to modify the content of the process.  To request a user ID, send an email to info@osellus.com.

Enactment – Contains a set of files in zip format.  You need to save the files in your directory and then upload the process template in TFS as the pre-requisite to creating a project.

Reports – Contains a set of reports in zip format.   These reports include CMMI reports for the different CMMI levels.

Not all formats are available for each process.  If you are interested in a format which is currently not available on the sandbox, please send us a request at info@osellus.com.

4. How can I give my feedbacks to the process modeler?

Constructive feedback is essential for evolving any process.  You can give your feedback by posting a blog for that process (use process name as the category).  If you have specific improvements or suggestions, you can also use the Wiki site to update the process information or add your comments in the specific areas.

Feedbacks can be viewed by process modeler as well as others accessing the site.

5. How often does the sandbox content changes?

The content of sandbox is continuously evolving specially due to the nature of community input.  We are anticipating that the sandbox will grow into a rich repository of processes and their different mash ups and blends.

6. How can processes be mashed up?

In our views mashed up would mean taking a process and modifying it. This modification can take the form of a different presentation options (we modified MSF for CMMI already by changing its look and feel), modifying the process using wiki, modifying the generated MSP (such as adding links), modifying VSTS Process Templates (such as adding support for IRIS Process Live for those users who have the IRIS Process Live plugin or adding reports). Finally, mash-up, in its most common usage would mean giving users access to IRIS Process Author sandbox to import elements from these processes to create new process outputs that can be hosted on the sandbox.

7. How can I use the VSTS process template?

You need TFS to use these process templates. A blog post for each process explains the number of kind of work item types that will be created in a team project using that process template. If after using these templates you realize that you would like to use the IRIS Process Live plugin for VSTS from Osellus you can contact us to set you up with the trial client to see if you would be interested in purchasing this commercial VSTS extension from Osellus.

8. How can merge content from these processes with my own content?

If the wiki option doesn’t meet your requirements, you can contact us to create a trial user account on the IRIS Process Author sandbox. You will have access to all these processes and can create true mash-ups there. Osellus has deep discounted licensing arrangement for partners including education and research institutes.

9. How can I donate content to the sandbox?

You can contact us to assign the required resources to add your content to IRIS Process Central Sandbox. Although we will try to cover as much open (non-commercial) content, we would rely on partners to come forward and suggest any open content they would be interested to see.
